DIVINATION/Three Nails Of Fate (DRP Records) This band has been around for
awhile and while some of there older material was Cannibal Corpse in style, this
new release is simply amazing. The band have come a lonmg way and the riffs,
playing and singing are just perfect. Blistering riffs, strong vocals and
excellent songs had me stunned. The band mix it up from slower, crushing parts to
total all out blasts of hell. An excelelnt slb of death metal that belongs on
a big indie label for sure.

DIVINATION - THREE NAILS OF FATE (8 song CD) DRP RECORDS
I'm glad to see these guys are still going strong. DIVINATION is an extremely good Death Metal band from pennsylvania. My old band FAMILY OF FREAKS was supposed to play a show with these guys back in 1995, but it never went through. The guys have changed their sound a bit on this new release. They have gotten much heavier, more brutal & more technical as well. They have a great combination of old school & new school Death Metal in their sound. The vocals are done in a mid ranged Death growl & a higher pitched Death scream. This disc is by far better than anything they have put out in the past. Check these guys out & you'll here one of Pennsylvania's Death Metal bands!!!

Okay, I'm starting with the cover. This is THE most disgusting cover I've
ever seen, this beats Cannibal Corpse's album covers. It's Porno-riffic! Some
of the stuff on there I have no idea what the fuck it is. It's crazy!
My mom would have a heart attack if she saw this. (Thank goodness she doesn't
look through my stuff, unlike SOME PEOPLE)

Okay, on to the music: This music is just about as sick as the cover, except
I can listen to this. Loud, fast, hard, brutal-as-fuck metal with a little
early 90s metal influence on the beginning of "Cataclysm" I really like the
guitars on that.

"Unpredictable Impulse" sounds a lot like Cannibal Corpse, musically, except
there's more of a variety on the vocal tone, not all monotone like some bands
I've heard..nay, most bands I've heard.

All in all, this is a great album. I have listened to this probably the most
times in one week. Sorry I don't have much to say here, Im speechless.

I will ask one question: What the hell is that thing below the loose...uh,
thing...on the near bottom left of the cover?? I really have no idea.

Finally, I got a copy of this 5 song cd that seemed to take forever to get released.  Anyway, this disc is by far their best release to date and simply shreds their 2 previous demos.  They dispense 5 tracks of brutal death/grind with equal portions of slower heaviness as well.  John's blasts are much more clean and precise on here and he really does a good job on the drums.  Matt's vocals are slightly lower and more convincing this time around, and he as well does a grade "A" job.  I really hope these guys follow this disc with some decent promotion, because with the progress evident on this cd, they are really coming to their own, and the sound on this finally does them justice and the songs are great.

There are thousands of death metal bands out there.  What makes one stand out?  It takes a lot.  One thing would have to be originality.  Is DIVINATION  original?  Nope.  They do have other positive aspects, that being conviction, talent and professionalism.  "Obsessed" is crushing, fast and brutal.  It's also catchy and commands you to turn up the volume.  A couple of flaws lurk here.  The vocals are too high in the mix and the CD has kind of a warped sound to it.  It doesn't affect my ears enough that I don't smell the promise (butter?) in these lads.  If they could create their own sound it's quite probable they'll get signed and will slaughter the Underground.  While you're waiting for that to happen, you might want to check these guys out.  Oh yeah, the drummer fuckin' slays on here!  Good stuff.

Extremely impressive self-financed debut CD from this Reading, Pennsylvania Death Metal outfit.  Shifting gears effortlessly from high speed grind riffs to sluggish, heavy sections to bizarre, impassioned guitar solos, DIVINATION manages to maintain a high level of interest on this five song torture fest.  the vocal talents of Matt McCollough deserve special mention as he morphs from blood-boiling shrieks to gut-churning grunts in the blink of an eye.  A very powerful and polished effort that should raise some eyebrows in the Death Metal underground.
